This gorgeous changing basket, made from pesticide-free dried elephant grass and traditional powdered dyes, is completely handmade and features a striking black pattern. The basket comes with a fitted foam pad; a basket liner and waterproof fitted sheet are sold separately. Due to the handmade nature of this basket, variations in color may occur. Ethically handmade in Ghana.

Materials: Elephant grass, dye, and Moroccan leather
Care: If you need to clean your basket, you can run it under cold or room temperature water for a few minutes or use a wet cloth to wipe it down. (This technique can also be used to reshape a basket that has lost its shape.) The basket should be set to dry outside (away from sunlight) or under a fan. Please make sure it is fully dried before use. Soap or spray cleaners may damage the basket.
Size: Approximately 29 x 16 x 3 inches
Founded by Coretta Owusu—a lawyer, advocate, and entrepreneur working in the United States and West Africa—Design Dua shares the beauty of African design with the world by giving local artisans the opportunity to benefit from their art. Design Dua works with a cooperative of basket weavers in Ghana, establishing fixed pricing guidelines for all products (a 50% or higher increase over weavers’ previous profits); providing training, benefits, and access to materials for its artisans; and bringing awareness about fair compensation to local weavers outside of the cooperative.
Most importantly, all Design Dua baskets are safe for your baby. They are handcrafted in Ghana in a controlled environment to adhere to government-issued safety standards; in fact, Design Dua’s baskets are the only factory-made elephant grass baby products in West Africa. The baskets are tested in a United States CPSC-approved lab and meet all US safety requirements. All baskets are free of lead, pesticides, phthalates, and other heavy metals. Each basket comes with a fitted foam pad, which is free of flame retardants. The leather used on the basket handles is Moroccan leather; no raw dried animal hide is used.
Changing baskets are a wonderful addition to your nursery. However, your baby should not be left unattended on a dresser top in a changing basket, and the basket should also not be used for sleeping. Please use a nonslip pad or screws to secure this item to the top of your dresser.
Due to the nature of Design Dua’s baskets, pieces of grass may begin to stick out after use. Please routinely check your basket and closely trim with scissors any pieces that have begun to stick out.
